Tadashi is here [Part 2]: Coming Home

Contains spoilers from the film

“Alright, we’re almost there,” you tell Tadashi as Baymax begins his decent.

Baymax lands at the back of the house in front of the garage.  Tadashi helps you lift the door, and once all of you are inside, he closes it back up.

“Okay, Big Guy, let’s get you out of your armor,” you say to Baymax before helping him out.

Once Baymax is done, you begin to work on taking off your own gear.  You start with the helmet, and then pull off your top, revealing your sports bra.  You hear Tadashi clear his throat and it makes you pause.  Looking over your shoulder at him, you find that his cheeks are tinted and he’s looking everywhere but at you.  You can’t help but laugh at him, “Oh come on, Tadashi.  It’s not like you’ve never seen this before.”

His eyes latch onto yours and you can tell he’s trying his hardest to maintain eye contact, but then his eyes drop and you smirk.  You can feel his gaze on you as he traces over your curves.  You watch him, watching you, as you then slide out of your pants.  Your heart pounds as you recognize the familiar dilation of his eyes, indicating his attraction for you.

His eyes then zero in on your hip and his brows furrow.  “What is that?” he asks.

You look down and realize he’s looking at your new scar.  You received it during the battle at Krei Tech, when some flying shrapnel had hit you.  Tadashi steps closer and reaches a hand out to trace over it.  The feeling of his hand touching your bare skin causes goose bumps to form and you shiver.  “It’s nothing, Tadashi.  I’m okay.”

His gaze lifts up to meet yours, “Where did you get this?”  You can see the concern shinning in his eyes and it makes you gulp.

You step away and turn to go put on your normal clothes.  “Hiro and I will explain everything, I promise.”  You pause and bite your lip, “Just don’t get mad.  Okay?”

He raises an eyebrow at that.  “Why would I get mad?” he asks cautiously.

You dodge the question by heading back over to the garage door and lifting it open.  “Come on, we can talk inside the house.”  You grab Tadashi’s hand and lead him upstairs with Baymax following behind.  You make it up to the bedroom to find that Hiro still hasn’t come home yet.  It’s not surprising, though.  He usually likes to work in the lab for a little bit after he gets out of class.

Tadashi’s side of the room is still closed off with the slider, but he steps up to it and pulls it back.  His eyes widen in shock when he realizes that everything is still there.  “Nothing has changed…”

You give his hand a squeeze, “None of us had the heart to go through your things, so it should all still be here,” you explain.  You release his hand and walk over to his bed.  You grab his baseball cap and hold it in your hands for a moment.  You trace over the stitching on the bill of the cap before turning to face Tadashi.  Reaching up, you brush your fingers through his bangs before placing the cap on his head.  Your eyes water as a feeling washes over you that everything is falling back into place.

Tadashi quickly pulls you into another kiss, the emotions overwhelming him as well.  His hands frame your cheeks and he tilts his head the way he always needs to when he’s wearing his hat, to make sure the bill doesn’t hit you.  Your hands wrap around his torso and your fingers grip onto the fabric of his jacket.  A few tears slip out of your eyes, but Tadashi is quick to wipe them away.  When he pulls out of the kiss, his arms slip around your shoulders and he draws you in.  You burry your face into his chest and let him hold you.

A few moments later, you hear stomping coming up the stairs.  “Hey (Name), I hope you’re done with that research paper, because I’m going to need my computer to…” Hiro’s voice cuts off when he finally makes it up to the room.  His eyes go wide and his jaw drops.  “T-Tadashi?”  His backpack slides off his shoulders and falls to the floor with a dull thud, but he doesn’t seem to notice.

You both pull out of your hug and turn to face Hiro.  “Come here, knucklehead.”  Tadashi opens his arms.

Without any hesitation, Hiro runs to his brother.  They wrap their arms around each other and hold on tightly.  After a moment you hear Hiro sniff.  When he pulls back to look up at Tadashi, he has tears streaming from his eyes.  “You’re alive!  How is this possible?  Is this even real?”

Tadashi gazes at his little brother fondly and runs a hand through his messy hair.

You step away from them and make your way over to Baymax.  “Come on, let’s give them some time to catch up,” you tell him before grabbing his hand and pulling him downstairs to the living room.

To kill some time, you walk around the room gazing at all the framed photographs Aunt Cass had up on the walls.  The photos ranged back to when the boys were little, all the way to present day.  The most recent photo is a group shot of the whole gang on Hiro’s first day of school at SFIT.  You realize that you are all going to have to take another one now that Tadashi is back.

“(Name),” you hear Baymax call out your name and you turn to face him.

“Yeah?”

Baymax is standing across the room looking at you with a tilted head.  “Now that Tadashi is back, does that mean I am no longer necessary?”

You frown and walk over to him.  “Of course not, Baymax.  Why would you think that?”

“Both you and Hiro are my patients.  Since Tadashi’s return, your neurotransmitter levels have elevated higher than they have ever been and seem to be stabilizing at that elevated rate.  His presence is making you both happier than I have ever been able to accomplish, therefore that makes me obsolete.”

“Baymax, don’t ever think things like that.  You’re more than just a robot or a healthcare companion to us.  You’re our friend.  You’re just as much a part of this family as the rest of us.  Hiro would be devastated without you.  He worked day in and day out to get you back after the battle at Krei Tech.  Yes, he does definitely need his big brother in his life, but he also needs his best friend.  And that’s you, Baymax.  You mean the world to Hiro, to all of us, actually.  You are not obsolete.  Don’t ever think that you are.”  You wrap your arms round his large form, pulling him in for a hug.  He hesitates a moment before reciprocating the hug.  You laugh when you are pressed to his inflatable body.  “Besides, you give the best hugs.”  You give him a kiss on the cheek before pulling back.

It’s not much later that you hear the commotion of footsteps on the stairs.  “Wait!  Where are you going?” You hear Tadashi yell.

“We have to tell Aunt Cass that you’re okay!” Hiro replies as he runs down the stairs.

Tadashi chases after him and grabs the hood of his sweatshirt before he reaches the second set of stairs.  “Hold on a minute.  I’ve told you everything that’s happened with me, but now you need to fess up to what’s been going on with you.  From what I’ve heard from (Name), I don’t think I’m going to like it.”

Hiro looks over at you with an accusing glare.  “You told him?”

You put your hands up in surrender, “Hey, I haven’t said anything.”

“She told me not to get mad, and usually when someone says things like that, what follows doesn’t go over very well.”  Tadashi drags Hiro over to the couch.  “Both of you sit down,” he orders.

You both do as you’re told.  Tadashi stands in front of you with crossed arms and he looks down with a determined glare.  “Now tell me what happened?”

You and Hiro share a look before gazing back at Tadashi guiltily.  “So…” you start out, trying to figure out the best way to word it.  “We’re kind of the ones that took down Callaghan.”

Hiro’s shoulders hunch and he tries to give Tadashi an innocent smile.  Tadashi’s frown deepens.  “Come again?”

“We found out that someone had started the fire at the showcase as a distraction to steal my microbots.  I got (Name), Baymax and the others to help me find and catch the guy.  It wasn’t until later that we found out it was Callaghan.”  Hiro explains further.

It was then that Tadashi exploded.  “You did what?!  You seriously went after Callaghan!  Hiro, he threatened to have you killed!  I looked into his eyes after the fire, he had no remorse for what he did.  How could you think going after him was a good idea?!”  He then turned to you, “And how could you let him go through with this?  Did you even try to stop him?  Did you not think about the potential danger both of you were putting yourselves in?  Wait a minute, this is how you got that scar, isn’t it?  You got hurt trying to do this!”

You make a move to stand up, trying to calm him down.  “Tadashi-”

“Sit down,” he orders, a dangerous edge to his voice.

You fall back onto the couch, not out of submission, but more out of shock that he would speak to you like that.

“What about you?” Tadashi turns back to Hiro.  “Did you get hurt?”

Hiro is silent for a moment, trying to weigh his options.  With a sigh, he lifts up his jacket and takes it off.  He then lifts the sleeve of his shirt to show a small scar on his shoulder.  “I got nicked by some of the debris, but it wasn’t anything serious.”

“It left a scar.  That’s serious enough for me.  What were you two thinking?!”

“We weren’t, Tadashi!” You finally manage to get out.  That definitely shuts him up.  “You were dead, and the rest of us… We were barely even surviving.  I felt so helpless and alone.  Nothing seemed to matter without you there to experience it as well.  I felt hollow inside, and so helpless.  The others weren’t much better, and Hiro… He was worse.”  You looked over at the younger Hamada brother and he looked back at you sadly.  You switched your gaze to look up at Tadashi.  “Then all of a sudden we find out that the fire wasn’t even an accident.  It was started intentionally.  What were we supposed to do?  Let the guy that essentially killed you run free?!”

“You go to the police!  Don’t take matters into your own hands!”  Tadashi said, desperately trying to get both of you to see reason.

“I tried to!  They didn’t believe me!” Hiro responded.

“And it’s not like we went in there defenseless!  We succeeded!  He’s in prison.  Shouldn’t that account for anything?” You ask.

He sighs and rubs the back of his neck.  “Earlier you guys said something about the others, what others?”

“Honey Lemon, GoGo, Wasabi and Fred helped us too,” you tell him hesitantly.

“You guys dragged our best friends into this as well?!  What would you have done if one of you died?”

“But we didn’t!  So what’s the point in asking?” Hiro replies.

“Because you could have!”

“Tadashi.”  You say in a firm voice.

He looks at you.  You maintain eye contact, not backing down.  He’s the first to look away and he sighs.  He rubs a hand over his face before slumping down on the coffee table behind him.  He rests his elbows on his knees and just looks at the floor, trying to calm down.  He takes in a deep breath, and then looks up at the both of you.  “Alright.  Tell me everything that happened.  From the beginning,” his voice is calmer than it was before.

“Are you going to freak out again?” you ask.

“I’ll try not to.”  He’s still frowning, but at least he doesn’t seem angry anymore.

You and Hiro then delve in to a thorough explanation of everything that happened after the fire.  You can tell that Tadashi disapproves of your tactics, but he doesn’t go on a rampage again.  You can also tell that he’s begrudgingly impressed by the upgrades Hiro gave all of us.  After he’s cooled off a little more, you know that he’s going to be taking Hiro down to the garage to show him more.  When the explanations are over, he’s silent, trying to think it all over.

“You’re sure both of you are okay?” he asks.

You nod, “Tadashi, we’re fine.”

He moves off the coffee table to kneel down into front of the couch.  He places his hands on each of your knees and looks up at the two of you.  “Now, don’t get me wrong, I still don’t like the way you handled things, but you should also know that I’m very proud of you.”

You and Hiro move simultaneously, leaning down to wrap your arms around Tadashi.  You pull each other into a big hug and squeeze.  Tadashi uses one hand to fluff up Hiro’s hair while he turns his head to kiss your forehead.  When you all pull back, Tadashi looks up over your head and smiles.  Turning to see what he’s looking at, you find out he’s gazing at Baymax.  “Thanks for looking after these two, Baymax.  I owe you one.”

Baymax takes a few steps closer.  “I was just following my programming.”

Tadashi chuckles and stands up so he can walk over to Baymax.  He puts a hand up on Baymax’s shoulder.  “You did a lot more than that.”

“I only did it because Hiro said it would stabilize his pubescent mood swings.”

Tadashi begins to choke on his own air, while you snort out a laugh.  Hiro looked positively mortified when you all turned to face him.  “Your what?!”  Tadashi asks through his coughing.

“Uh, ha ha,” Hiro laughs awkwardly, “I intentionally left that part out…”

You and Tadashi share a look before bursting out into laughter.  You clutch your stomach and bend over slightly, while Tadashi leans on Baymax for support.

“Oh, haha.  Very funny.” Hiro says sarcastically with a roll of his eyes.  “I’m gonna go get Aunt Cass.”

When you’ve calmed down, you move closer to Tadashi and look up at him through your lashes, “So, are you still mad?” you ask hesitantly.

His eyes turn tender as he reaches a hand out to cup your cheek, “Now how can I stay mad at such a pretty face?”

You smile back, close your eyes and lean in to his touch.  He steps closer and lightly brushes his lips against yours.  “Thanks for looking out for my little brother.”

You open your eyes and look deeply into his.  “He’s kind of my little brother, too, you know.”

He gives you that lopsided smile that you love so much.  His hands move to hold onto your waist.

“Would you mind if I spent the night, tonight?” You ask, not wanting to go back to your empty apartment.

“I wasn’t planning on letting you leave,” he tells you.

You then hear footsteps coming up the stairs.  “Alright, alright.  I’m coming.  What’s the rush anyways?” you hear Aunt Cass’ voice.

When she gets passed the landing she looks up and sees the both of you.  She stops in her tracks, gasps and covers her mouth with her hands.  “Hey, Aunt Cass,” she stays frozen in place with wide eyes as Tadashi walks over to her.  As soon as he’s close enough, she launches into his arms and begins to cry.  He holds her close, rubbing her back.

Hiro moves to stand next to you.  When you look down at him, you can see tears welling up in his eyes.  He looks up at you and gives you a small smile.  You swing an arm over his shoulder and pull him into your side.  He returns the gesture by wrapping an arm around your waist.

Once Aunt Cass has calmed down, she declares that she’s going to close the café early and make a special dinner for us.  Exhausted from the emotional evening, the three of you decide to get ready for bed once dinner is over.  Tadashi lets you borrow a loose shirt and an old pair of basketball shorts for sleeping in.

You jump onto his bed first and scoot over to the far side, so he can get on after you.  You both pull the covers back before stretching out and making yourselves comfortable.  The two of you turn when you hear Hiro clear his throat.  He’s standing at the foot of his bed and looking over at you both.

“Would you guys mind if I slept with you?” he asks awkwardly.

Tadashi turns to you for confirmation.  You smile warmly at Hiro.  “Of course we don’t mind.  Come on in here, Hiro.  We can make it one big party!”  You shift closer to the edge of the bed, so Tadashi can move to the middle to make room for Hiro on his other side.

Tadashi lifts the covers so Hiro can jump right in.  You curl up against Tadashi’s left side, putting your head over his chest, so you can fall asleep to the sound of his beating heart.  Hiro curls up to Tadashi’s right side.  Tadashi stretches his arms around the both of you and holds you close.

“I get to fall asleep with my two favorite people in the world.  How did I get so lucky?” He asks the two of you.

You hum in agreement but are too tired to give a full response.  You lock eyes with Hiro and you smile at each other, before closing your eyes and falling asleep.

=======Bonus Section: The Morning After=======

You wake up the next morning to the sunlight streaming through the windows.  You shift around a little and try to bury your face against your pillow.  You then have a momentary panic attack when you realize you don’t feel a pair of strong arms wrapped around you.  You bolt up into a sitting position, hoping that the events of last night weren’t just some crazy dream.

Looking around, you realize that you are still in Tadashi’s room.  You glance over at Hiro’s bed to see that it’s empty and the blankets are still neatly made.  You then hear the sheets next to you shuffle.  Looking to your right, you gasp at what you see and have to slap a hand over your mouth to keep from bursting into laughter.

The boys are curled around each other, still sleeping soundly.  Hiro’s face is buried into his brother’s chest while Tadashi holds him close.  Your suppressed laughter is making your body shake, which in turn begins to shake the bed.  This causes the boys to begin to stir awake.  Hiro shifts his head, making his spiked up hair brush against Tadashi’s neck and chin.  Tadashi smiles, “(Name), that tickles,” he mumbles sleepily.

You can’t help it; a short laugh escapes your throat before you tighten your hands even more over your mouth.

However, the short sound was enough to get both boys to open their eyes.  They stare at each other in confusion for a moment.  When things finally begin to click, they jolt back in surprise and yell out.  Hiro jumps back a little too far and ends up falling off the bed.  He lands with a hard thud, and you just can’t hold it in anymore.  Your laughter fills the room as the two of them start yelling at each other.

“Eh!  Were you holding me like that all night?!”

“What were you doing all curled up against me?”

“I wasn’t curled up against you!  You pulled me in first!”

“You were supposed to be my girlfriend!”

“She was sleeping on your other side!”

“I was asleep!  How was I supposed to know that?”

Their argument just makes you laugh even harder; you have to clutch your stomach.

“And you, Missy.  I’ll give you something to laugh about,” Tadashi turns his attention to you.

Your laughter immediately cuts off when you recognize the dangerous glint in his eyes.  “Uh oh,” you try to jump off the bed, but he easily catches you and tosses you onto you back.

Before you can do anything, his fingers are already digging into your sides.  You scream and laugh as he tickles you.  You thrash from side to side, trying to dodge his hands, but it’s not helping.  “Not so funny, now, is it?  Oh wait, you’re still laughing!” He taunts you.

“Tadashi!”  You yell at him in between laughs, but it does nothing to stop him.  One of your thrashing arms moves upwards and you accidentally clip his chin with your elbow.

“Ah!” He cups his chin and falls back onto his pillows.

“Oh my gosh!  I’m so sorry!” You sit up quickly and turn to face him.  “Are you okay?”  You ask, in between catching your breath.

He laughs and looks up at you.  “Yeah, I’m pretty sure my chin is harder than your elbow.”

It’s then that you notice a dull pain in your arm.  “I think you might be right,” you rub the sore spot to help alleviate the pain.

Hiro’s laugh draws your attention away from each other and over to him.  He’s still sitting on the floor, but he’s grinning up at the two of you.  “It’s good to have you back, Bro.”

Tadashi gives him a grin to match.  “It’s good to be back.”
I thought of that last bit right as I was finishing up the main part and thought it was too great to leave out!  Hope you enjoyed it!
