Wedding Bells

You pace the floor of the small room, the only sound being the clicks of your heels on the hardwood floor and the soft swooshing of the fabric of your white dress.  You step in front of the mirror once again to check your appearance.  Just like the other 63 times you’ve checked in the past hour, you look absolutely perfect.  Your makeup and hair have been artistically done to enhance your already natural beauty.  The beautiful wedding dress hugs to your curves in ways that you know will drive your soon to be husband absolutely insane, while still maintaining the elegance of a beautiful bride.

The white diamond sparkles brightly on your finger, but is otherwise the only piece of jewelry you have opted to wear.  You couldn’t wait to be able to add the second ring that was meant to mold perfectly next to the one you already wore.

You look up, startled when you hear the door burst open before it slams shut.  “Hiro?” you recognize the younger Hamada brother even though he has his back to you.

With a jump, he turns around.  “(Name)!”  His eyes widen when he takes you in.  You do the same to him, when you notice he actually looks quite dashing in his tux.  His hair is still as messy as always, but the suit is pressed and clean and tailored to fit him nicely.  “Wow, you look sick!” he tells you.

You laugh and raise an eyebrow, “Thanks?  I think…”

He grins and steps closer, “It’s a compliment,” he confirms.

You smile and nod, “Alright, well then, you look sick to.”

“Thanks,” he responds nonchalantly before he stands next to you to look in the mirror.  He then begins to run his fingers through his hair to mess it up even more.

“What are you doing in here?” you ask curiously, tilting your head to the side.

He glances at you through the mirror, “Hiding from Aunt Cass.  She keeps trying to run a comb through my hair.  You don’t mind if I just chill with you, do you?”

You laugh and shake your head, “I don’t mind.  I could use the company anyways.”

“You’re not freaking out, are you?” he asks, moving to the other corner of the room to sit in a chair.

You shrug a shoulder and begin your pacing once more, “Only because I want this thing to get started already.  Aunt Cass and the girls insisted that we start the ceremony a little later to give me enough time to get ready.  But now I’m just stuck here, even though I’ve been ready.  And the ceremony still won’t start for another half hour, which just means there’s thirty more minutes where something can go wrong.  And I really don’t want anything to go wrong, but wedding days are notorious for being the barer of things going wrong.  We’ve been lucky so far, the weather is great, everyone that RSVP-ed has shown up, the caterers have called and said everything is good to go.  Don’t get me wrong, I mean I’m super excited to finally being able to marry Tadashi, but at the same time I just want the day to be over with.”

Hiro’s eyes follow you as you move back and forth, slightly regretting his decision to hide out with you.  He didn’t sign up for “calming the bride” duties.

Noting his silence, you turn to look at him suspiciously, “You don’t have any pranks planned, do you?”

Hiro looks at you surprised by your question, before he grins mischievously.

You frown and march up to him, “Hiro Hamada, you better stop that train of thought right now, before I-”

You get cut off by his laughing, “Would you relax?  Nothing bad is going to happen.  Not only would you have my head if I were to do anything, but so would Tadashi and Aunt Cass.  I really don’t need that kind of negative energy hunting me down.”

You let out a long sigh, trying to calm down.  “You’re right, I’m sorry for accusing you.  I’m just anxious, I guess.”

“Yeah, I can see that.”

You are both interrupted when you hear a knock on the door.  “(Name)?”

You feel your tense muscles relax as you instantly recognize the voice.  “Tadashi!”

Hiro tenses up in the chair, “Don’t tell him I’m here!  He’ll tell Aunt Cass!” he whispers hastily to you.

You smile and roll your eyes at him.

“I know it’s bad luck to see the bride before the wedding, but I was kind of hoping it wouldn’t be bad to at least talk to you,” Tadashi says through the closed door.

You walk over and place your hands against the wood of the door, imagining him on the other side.  “I don’t think it’s bad luck, at least I hope not.  I miss you,” you tell him.

You can hear him exhale in a laugh, “I miss you too.  I could barely sleep last night.”

You smile, “Too much partying with the guys?” you joke.

Tadashi chuckles, “If you want to call watching Godzilla 1 through 4 all in a row, a party.  I swear Wasabi was about ready to throw Fred’s television straight out the window.”

You laugh at the image, “Couldn’t have been much worse than karaoke night with the girls.  I sound like a beached whale when I sing.”

“You do not,” he responds with a laugh.

“It’s true!  I think I may have broken a few glasses.”

Tadashi lets out a soft sigh once his laughter dies down.  “The only reason I couldn’t sleep was because you weren’t there, snuggled up in my arms.”

“I know the feeling,” you sympathize, letting out your own sigh.

You look over at Hiro when he starts making gagging noises.

“What’s that?” Tadashi asks, hearing it too.

“Hiro’s getting grossed out by our mushy love talk,” you inform him.

Hiro stops and gives you a “what the heck?” look.  “You said you wouldn’t say anything!” he makes no effort this time to conceal his whereabouts.

You laugh at him, “I made no such claims to you.”

“Hiro?  What is he doing in there?  Aunt Cass has been looking for him for nearly fifteen minutes!”

“Tadashi Hamada, you better get away from that door!” you recognize Aunt Cass’ distant voice, coming from down the hall.

“We’re only talking!  I wasn’t going to go in!” he protests.

“There will be plenty of time to talk to her after you’re married, but for now?  Scat!”

You can hear him groan, “Hiro’s hiding in there with her.”

“What?!”

Hiro glares at you pointedly, “Thanks a lot, (Name).”

You laugh and ruffle his hair, “You gave yourself away when you made all that racket.  You have no one to blame but yourself.”

“Hiro Hamada, you have three seconds to come out of there, before I come in and pull you out by your ear,” Aunt Cass threatens.

Hiro lets out a groaning huff, “I’m coming!”  He glares as he walks passed, “I’m rethinking that whole prank thing, now.”

You glare back, “I will kill you and burry your body somewhere that no one will find it.”

Hiro’s eyes widen at how serious you sound, “Yeesh, can’t you take a joke?”

It’s not until he steps out and closes the door behind him, that you release your scathing look with a laugh and a shake of your head.  Luckily, it isn’t much longer before Aunt Cass comes back telling you that the ceremony is ready to start.

You follow her through the halls of the church to the room just on the other side of the main area.  Everyone involved in the wedding procession is already waiting there, and they all turn at your entrance.  Anyone who hasn’t seen you yet, gasps in awe and delight.

“(Name), you look beautiful!” Honey Lemon gushes, standing arm in arm with Wasabi.

Fred and GoGo stand behind them, both grinning excitedly at you.  Hiro is standing grumpily in the front with his hair combed down.  Next to him is your little cousin who is dressed in a pretty light pink dress as your flower girl.

The last one in the wedding procession is the ring bearer and you can’t stop the grin on your face as you look over at him.  Tadashi had turned his large chocolate puppy dog eyes on you and asked if Baymax could be a part of the wedding.  You had laughed at first, thinking that he had been joking, but he definitely wasn’t.  It took some convincing, but eventually you conceded.  And now here he stood, in his custom made tuxedo, holding a small pillow with yours and Tadashi’s wedding bands.

You have to fight a laugh as you shake your head, only Tadashi Hamada could get away with having a giant marshmallow robot in his wedding.

You feel a warm hand on your shoulder, “Ready, sweetheart?”

“Dad!” You turn to him with a smile.  “I think the real question here is, are you ready?”

He smiles when he shakes his head, “Definitely not.  You grew up way too fast.”

You laugh and link your arm through his.  “Sorry, I’m not your little girl anymore.”

He leans over to kiss your forehead.  “You’ll always be my little girl.  But you’re also the prettiest bride, I’ve ever seen.  Don’t tell your mother I said that, though,” he finishes with a wink.

It’s then that the music starts up, indicating the beginning of the ceremony.  Everyone stands up a little bit straighter as you all prepare to walk down the aisle.  The doors open up and Hiro and your little cousin are the first ones to step out.  The others soon follow at the slow, rehearsed pace.  You feel your heart begin to pound as Baymax makes his way through the doors, meaning that you are next.

You take a deep breath to steal your sudden bout of nerves as the music changes for the bride’s entrance.  You fingers grip a little tighter to your father’s arm.

“Here we go,” he whispers to you.

You nod and take a step forward.  Rounding the corner, you both step through the doorway and you hear a collective gasp from everyone in attendance.  You feel your cheeks heat up as everyone stares.  Your gaze quickly glances over everyone and you feel your heart rate increase even more.  Finally, your eyes look to the end of the aisle and you find Tadashi.

The look on his face makes you smile and eases your nerves.  His mouth is open and his eyes are wide.  He openly stares at you as you make your way down the aisle.  When Hiro notices that his older brother is practically drooling all over the place, he elbows Tadashi in the side.  That gets him to at least shut his mouth, but he still can’t look away from you.

You make your way to him at an agonizingly slow pace, until finally he’s standing right in front of you.  Honey Lemon steps up to take your bouquet from you so your father can hand you off.  Tadashi takes your hand and walks with you up the few steps to get to the altar.

“You look so beautiful, (Name),” he whispers to you, bringing your hand up to kiss the back.

You smile up at him.  “You don’t look too shabby yourself.”

He smiles back and entwines your fingers before you both turn to the minister.  “You have all gathered here today to witness the union of Tadashi Hamada and (Full Name) as husband and wife.  It is a union of two people founded upon mutual respect and affection.  Your lives will change, your responsibilities will increase, but your joy will be multiplied if you are sincere and earnest with your pledge to one another.

We celebrate with them the love they have discovered in each other and we support their decision to commit themselves to each other for the rest of their lives.  Marriage is an honorable estate not to be entered into lightly but thoughtfully and reverently. Marriage is a commitment to take another person as a Friend, Companion and Lover.

Tadashi, will you have this woman to be your wedded wife, to love her, comfort her, honor and keep her, and forsaking all others, keep you only unto her, for so long as you both shall live?”

Tadashi’s grip on your hand tightens as he looks down at you lovingly, “I do.”

The minister then turns to you, “(Name), will you have this man to be your wedded husband, to love him, comfort him, honor and keep him, and forsaking all others, keep you only unto him, so long as you both shall live?”

You smile back with just as much love, “I do.”

“Please face each other and join hands.”  You both do as you are told.  Your eyes lock together and you both smile.  “Repeat after me.  I, Tadashi Hamada, take you, (Full Name), to be my wedded wife, to have and to hold, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, to love and to cherish, from this day forward.”

You feel your eyes tear up as Tadashi repeats his vows to you.

“And now for the bride, please repeat after me.  I, (Full Name), take you, Tadashi Hamada, to be my wedded husband, to have and to hold, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, to love and to cherish, from this day forward.”

You can see Tadashi swallow thickly as he tries to hold back his own tears.

“Please present the rings.” The minister instructs.  Hiro turns to Baymax and unties the rings from the pillow before he hands them over.  “The marriage ring seals the vows of marriage and represents a promise for eternal and everlasting love.  As the rings have no end, neither shall your love. It is a physical manifestation of the promises joining both the bride and groom together. The wedding ring is placed on the fourth finger of the left hand because it was traditionally believed that this finger was a direct connection to the heart - the perfect place for a symbol representing eternal love and commitment.

Place this ring on the bride’s finger and repeat: With this ring, I thee wed.”

Tadashi does so, taking the ring and slipping it onto your finger until it molds against your engagement ring.  You let out a shaky breath as his thumb rubs over the two rings in their place.

“Now, place this ring on the groom’s finger and repeat: With this ring, I thee wed.”

You do as you are told, taking the ring and putting it on Tadashi’s finger.

“We who have come together today, have heard the willingness of Tadashi and (Name) to be joined in marriage. They have come of their free will and in our presence, have declared their love and commitment to each other. They have given and received a ring as a symbol of their promises. Therefore, by the power vested in me by the laws of the city of San Fransokyo, I take great pride and pleasure as I declare them husband and wife.

You may now kiss your bride.”

You yelp when Tadashi grabs your waist and dips you back.  You quickly hook an arm around his neck and then his lips are on yours.  You close your eyes and kiss back, indulging in your first kiss with your new husband.  Your heart is pounding so hard that you can’t even hear everyone in the room cheering for the two of you.  Tadashi pulls back, giving you the widest grin you’ve ever seen on his face.  You laugh when he sets you back into an upright position.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, I now present to you Mr. And Mrs. Hamada.”  The minister finishes the ceremony and you both turn to the group.

You smile in delight when you see everybody clapping and cheering.  Holding your hand tightly, Tadashi leads you back down the aisle and out of the church.  He hurriedly takes you down a path that leads to the gardens behind the church, excited for a few moments alone with you before it’s time for pictures.  He pulls you back behind a few rose bushes before pulling you in for another kiss.

You kiss him back hungrily, both out of excitement from the wedding and need from not having seen him all yesterday and this morning.  “I’m going to ruin your lipstick,” he mumbles against your lips, but makes no effort to stop.

“I don’t care,” you tell him, running your hands through his hair to pull him closer.

His arms circle around your waist, pulling you as close as your wedding dress will allow.

“We can hear the two of you going at it behind the bushes.  You’re not fooling anyone,” Hiro’s voice cuts through your moment.

You both unwillingly pull back.  When you look up at Tadashi, you can’t help but laugh.  His hair is sticking up all over the place and he has red lipstick all around his mouth.  He chuckles when he sees the damage he’s done to your own mouth.

His hand cradles your cheek as he runs his thumb around your bottom lip to fix your lipstick.  You run your fingers through his hair to straighten it out and then wipe as much of the lipstick off his mouth as you can.

When you both look presentable again, you walk out from behind the bush to meet up with the group.  They’re all giving you knowing looks as you both grin guiltily.  The photographer sends over his assistants to touch up your make up and give a handkerchief to Tadashi to finish cleaning off his mouth.

Once you’re ready to go, everyone stands around the garden to take the group pictures.  Everyone that was a part of the ceremony as well as your parents and Aunt Cass gather together.  You take several pictures together, before getting separated between the girls and the boys.

The main photographer comes over to you and the other girls with an assistant to get you into different poses, while his other assistants work with the guys.  You take a few serious shots with your bridesmaids, flower girl, your mother and Aunt Cass.  You then take a couple of silly shots where the girls are trying to take away your bouquet and you’re trying to keep it from them.  GoGo then pulls out a bunch of sunglasses and you all pose as secret agents, pretending to hold imaginary guns, while having overly dramatic serious faces.

When you’re done, you get pulled over to the guys to jump in on some of their pictures.  You do a couple serious and a couple silly shots once again.  After that, you do some shots with Hiro and your little cousin.  For the fun shots, Hiro ends up jumping onto Tadashi’s back, and with some help, you are able to get your cousin on your back, hooking your elbows around her knees to keep her in place.  All four of you can’t stop laughing because you’re all just having so much fun.

Lastly are the pictures of just you and Tadashi.  You do several pictures with Tadashi’s arms wrapped around you; some where you are facing each other and others where he’s holding your back to his chest as he gazes at the camera over your shoulder.  He kisses you on the cheek and then you tilt your head back so you can fully kiss.

You squeak when Tadashi lifts you up into his arms.  Your arms wrap around his neck to make sure you don’t fall.  When the shock of the sudden movement fades you laugh.  You lean forward to kiss Tadashi again as he holds you.

After photos have finally finished, you make your way out of the garden to the waiting limo that will take you to the reception.  Tadashi helps you get in with your fluffed up skirt before he slides in after you.  You hook your arm around his and lean your head against his shoulder.

“How are you holding up?” he asks grabbing your other hand and playing with your rings.

“I’m good right now, but I’m just hoping that I’ll be able to stay awake throughout the entire reception,” you tell him.

He chuckles and turns his head so he can kiss your forehead.  “If you need to turn in early, just let me know and I’ll implement the distraction plan so we can sneak off.”

You laugh and lift your head up off his shoulder.  “That sounds good to me.”

You both smile at each other, and then you watch as Tadashi’s gaze travels all across your face.  “I still can’t get over how beautiful you are.”

You feel your cheeks heat up.  Lifting a hand, you cradle the edge of his jaw before pulling his face down to yours.  This kiss you share isn’t as rushed and hungry as your previous one.  Instead, you take this one nice and slow, carefully molding your lips to one another’s.

“Do you have any idea how much I love you?” Tadashi asks, pulling back slightly.

You smile up at him, “Well, I did just agree to marry you, so I think I at least have some idea.”

He laughs, “Mrs. (Name) Hamada.  I really like the sound of that.”

“Me, too,” you tell him before leaning in for another kiss.

You have to pull away from each other when you feel the car come to a stop in front of the reception hall.  Tadashi is the first to get out so he can help you exit the limo.  You link your arm though his as he leads you into the building.  You can’t stop the giant grin from forming on your face as everyone in the large ballroom claps and cheers upon your entrance.  You both head over to the large table up at the front of the room, closest to the dance floor, which is designated for everyone in the wedding precession.

Before the two of you sit down, the whole room breaks out into a series of chants, “Kiss her.  Kiss her.  Kiss her.”

You and Tadashi laugh before facing each other.  He hooks an arm around your waist and pulls you in for another kiss.  Everyone cheers and screams even louder as you share your kiss.  After pulling back, Tadashi pulls your chair out for you so you can sit down.  He then grabs one of the champagne glasses that already sits on the table for you and lifts it up, so people will quiet down.

“I just wanted to thank everyone that came today to witness the day I got to make this amazing and beautiful woman right here mine.  Some of you came from pretty far out and I know that San Fransokyo can be a bit of a culture shock if you aren’t used to the city life.  I hope most of you get some time while you are here to go exploring, because despite its intimidating qualities, San Fransokyo is actually a truly amazing city and I can’t imagine anywhere else I’d rather spend the rest of my life with this little lady.  So, once more, thank you for coming and I hope you enjoy your stay here.  Now, without further ado, I’m sure everyone is practically starving by now, so let’s go ahead and dig in.  The food smells amazing, and I’m sure it’s just been torturing you all as you had to wait for the Mrs. and me to show up.”  When he finishes, Tadashi lifts his glass up in salute to everyone before taking a swig.

He sets the glass back down on the table before turning to you.  “I’ll go grab you a plate, just sit here looking pretty,” he leans down to kiss your forehead.

You smile and nod, deciding to indulge in his pampering.  He comes back with two plates piled high with food.  You laugh when he sets one of them in front of you, “Tadashi, if I eat all this food, my dress is going to explode.”

He laughs and sits down next to you, “Anything you don’t eat, I’ll finish off.”

You shake your head with a smile, “Just make sure you leave room for cake,” you tell him, picking up your fork and knife.

He leans over and kisses your cheek affectionately.  “There’s always room for cake.”

“Are you guys going to be like this all night?  Because if you are, I don’t think I’ll be able to keep down my food,” Hiro interrupts from Tadashi’s other side.

You laugh and lean forward to look at him from around Tadashi.  “Sorry, Little Bro, but tonight’s the one night you’re just going to have to suck it up and deal with it,” you tell him in a joking manner.

“Just be grateful you’re not sharing the hotel room with us tonight,” Tadashi tells him with a wink.

“Aw!  Gross!  Images in my mind!  Why would you say that?!” he burst out.

Even though Tadashi’s words make you laugh, you still elbow him in the side, “Perv.”

He laughs and leans over to whisper in your ear.  “Now that I’ve finally seen you in your dress, all I can think about is what you might be wearing underneath it.”

You cheeks flush deeply and you slap his chest, “Tadashi!”

He laughs at your reaction and leans back.  You shake your head at him and turn to your food.  You make light conversation with your friends and family that are also sitting at your table as you all eat.  Every once in a while, people come up to the table to congratulate you and Tadashi, and the two of you pause your conversations to thank them.

After about 45 minutes, Tadashi stands up and holds his hand out to you.  “May I have this dance?” he asks.

Smiling up at him, you take his hand and allow him to lift you up out of your seat.  Everyone begins to quiet their conversations when they notice the two of you making your way to the dance floor.  “Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to present Mr. and Mrs. Hamada in their first dance as a married couple,” the emcee announces as the two of you take your positions.

The opening instrumentals of the song begins and Tadashi softly sways you to the melody.  Once Nat King Cole’s soothing voice fills the air as he sings When I Fall in Love, Tadashi expertly moves you around the dance floor.  Not wanting to spend the night stepping on your toes, Tadashi had insisted that the two of you take a few dance lessons together to prepare for tonight.  He took to it a lot quicker than you thought he would and after just a few lessons he was already a pro, practically sweeping you off your feet.

You both spend the dance gazing lovingly at each other, completely oblivious to the crowd that has gathered around you to watch your dance.  When the song ends, you both lean in to share a kiss.  You smile over at everyone when they clap and cheer for you.

You and Tadashi separate so you can grab your father while he goes to get Aunt Cass for the next dance.  Your dad smiles down at you as you sway to the music.  “I don’t think I’ve ever seen you smile so much,” he tells you.

You laugh, “Well my cheeks are kind of killing me, but I can’t seem to stop.”

He chuckles as well, “Nor should you.  Today is your day.  It just makes me so happy to see you smiling and laughing so much.”

“Thanks, Dad.” You move up onto your tip toes to kiss him on the cheek.

After the song ends, Tadashi sweeps you back into his embrace while everyone else moves onto the dance floor to join you.  You share a few dances with each other, before moving around to dance with your friends and the other people invited to the wedding.

You notice a certain dark haired boy still sitting back at the table.  His head is bent down and he seems to be writing something on a napkin.  You excuse yourself from the people you are currently dancing with and make your way over to him.

Looking over his shoulder, you can see that he’s writing out a schematic diagram for some new electronics piece.  You place your hand on his shoulder and he looks up at you.  You smile encouragingly at him, “You’re not allowed to be antisocial at my wedding.  Come dance with me.”  You don’t even give him a chance to protest as you grab his arm and lift him out of his chair.

“What are you doing?  I don’t want to dance!”  He tries to wiggle his arm away from you, but you just tighten your grip.

“No whining allowed either,” you say, pulling him out onto the dance floor.  You grab both of his hands and begin to bounce to the music.  He stays in place and raises an eye brow at you as you swing his arms about.  You laugh at the look he’s giving you, “Come on, Hiro!  Have some fun!”

“I was having plenty of fun working on my robotics project before you came and bothered me.”

You roll your eyes and pull him in for a hug, “You are such a buzz kill!”  You sway from side to side, keeping him close so he is forced to sway as well.

He finally cracks a smile and chuckles a litle, “And you’re really weird.”

You laugh, “It’s only because I married your brother.”

That gets him to laugh out right.

“What’s because you married me?  And… what are you doing to my little brother?”  You look over at your husband as he moves over to the both of you.

“This is (Name)’s attempt at getting me to dance,” Hiro explains as you continue to sway back and forth.

You grin and begin to pet Hiro’s hair.  “I like this one, Tadashi, can we keep him?” you ask, blinking excessively to portray an innocent sort of look.

Hiro tries to smack your hands away from his head, “I’m not your pet!”

Tadashi comes up behind Hiro and puts his hands on your waist, effectively trapping Hiro between the two of you.  “I think we can work something out,” he responds to you, ignoring Hiro’s comment.  He leans down to kiss you over Hiro’s head.

“Aw!  Come on, guys!  That’s nasty!  Let me go!”

The three of you sway to the music together, you and Tadashi laughing at Hiro’s expense.  After a few songs, you finally release him and he goes running off, only to be grabbed by Aunt Cass as she makes him dance with her.

Tadashi grabs your hand and leads you off the dance floor.  “Are you having fun?” he asks once you’re both away from the crowd.

You smile and nod.  “I think this is the best wedding I’ve ever been to.”

He grins back, “Well that’s good.  Means we did something right.”

You laugh and hook your arms around his neck.  “Marrying you was the best decision I ever made.”

His hands hold you close as he leans his forehead against yours.  “Here’s to hoping you still think that many, many years from now.”
