Contains light spoilers from Big Hero 6.
Takes place four years after the movie, and you don't know about Hiro's extra curricular activities.

“We’ll bring you more coverage on the fight between Big Hero 6 and Kaiju in just a moment, but for now, we’ve got a video conference call with James Cowell a journalist who has been pretty out spoken in his distaste for our resident superheroes,” Dan Ashton, the head channel 7 news anchor introduces the man as a panel with this person’s image shows up on the television screen.

“Hello, Dan.  Thank you for accepting my call.”

“Of course, Mr. Cowell.  Now you have expressed a large dislike for the Big Hero 6 team, nearly from the beginning of their existence in San Fransokyo.  Would you please clarify your opinions?”

“Yes, well a common defense for them, as everyone knows, is that organized crime has decreased nearly 30% since their arrival.  However, more extreme criminal cases and terrorist attacks have been steadily increasing in its rate of appearance in our city.  Now I don’t know about you, but I’d very much prefer having to face some guy mugging me, maybe once in my life, than these frequent cases of giant monster robots, or suctioning teleportation machines terrorizing the city.  These kinds of things did not happen before the formation of Big Hero 6, it’s not until afterward that all of the crazies got let out of the insane asylum.”

“Yes, but if it hadn’t been for them, the accident at Krei Tech could have turned into a major catastrophe.  And everything that has been happening since then has only been put to a stop after they show up on the scene.  How would you suggest we protect the city when our normal law enforcement methods cannot contain these types of crimes?”

“Through my research on the subject, I was able to discover some rumors that those microbots that Professor Callaghan used to conduct his attack on Krei tech were actually an invention first created by the leader of Big Hero 6.  That attack would not have occurred, if it wasn’t for him.”

“Mr. Cowell, we here at channel 7 prefer to give solid facts to our viewers, not rumors.”

“Yes, but-”

“I do believe that is all the time we have for our interview, we now bring you back to Karen Nashida, on site in Downtown San Frans-”

You press the red button on the remote control to turn off your television.  You weren’t really paying attention anyways and the constant buzzing of the people talking on it was starting to annoy you.  You had way too many other things on your mind at the moment.

You sigh as you stare at your boyfriend’s contact information page on your phone.  The photo you have of him shows his goofy smile that you’ve always loved.  Underneath that, you can see his cell phone number, followed by the number to the robotics lab, and lastly the number to Aunt Cass’s apartment.  With a deep breath, you press on the first number and put you phone to your ear.

“Hey, you’ve reached Hiro Hamada.  Leave a message and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.”

Your heart clenches once again as the call goes directly to voice mail, like it has all night.  Biting your lip, you toss your phone onto the coffee table in front of you and try not to cry.  The special dinner you had prepared sits cold and untouched on the dining table.  You had been practically starving when you were making it, but when your doorbell never rang; you quickly lost your appetite.  Hiro had been bailing out on you a lot recently.  He would often get these phone calls or text messages while you were together and then he’d make up some excuse to leave soon after.  However, this was the first time that Hiro ever blatantly stood you up.

You couldn’t help but begin to worry.  All the signs pointed in the same direction, but you couldn’t get yourself to believe it.  Hiro would never do that, he loved you.  On the other hand, you definitely knew that he was hiding something from you.  You push yourself off the couch and begin to pace as your mind fills with doubt.  Could it really be possible?  Could Hiro be cheating on you?

You groan out loud, just about ready to tear your hair out.  “I need to get out of here,” you say, feeling like the walls around you were closing in.  You grab your coat and your keys before leaving the house and walking out into the brisk San Fransokyo night.

You take in a nice deep breath of the cool air and start to feel a little better, though not by very much.  Stuffing your hands into the pockets of your coat, you lose yourself to your thoughts.  You watch your feet as they slap against the cement of the side walk.

You completely block out the noise of the other bystanders and rushing vehicles, which is why you don’t notice anything when you reach an area of the city that is completely deserted.  You finally get snapped back to reality when you notice the ground shaking underneath you.  The movement ends after a short moment, but you stop walking anyways.  You’re about to chalk it off as just a small earthquake when it happens again.

Being more aware of your surroundings now, you also notice a dull thud kind of noise that accompanies the shaking.  It happens once again, and your heart drops when you realize what is going on.  It’s footsteps.  Giant footsteps.

Your body freezes up, not knowing what to do, when suddenly a giant robot monster appears from around the corner.  You gasp as your eyes keep traveling up and up as you take in the sheer size of this thing.  “Kaiju,” you mumble in dread, suddenly remembering how the news report was talking about a battle occurring downtown.

Suddenly, the head of the monster turns and looks straight at you.  “Well, what do we have here?” a man’s voice comes out of speakers placed somewhere on the monster.  The robot takes a step toward you and begins to reach down.

Your mind starts to scream at you to run, but your body reacts too late, before the large, clawed hand wraps around you and lifts you up.  You let out a loud terrified scream as you watch the ground disappear from below you.  You struggle and squirm, banging your fists against the metal of the fingers.  The hand jerks to a stop, and looking around you find yourself staring into the eyes of the monster.  On the other side of the glass, you can see a man grinning evil at you.

“My, you’re a pretty one, aren’t you?”

“Let me go!” you tell him in a voice that is much braver than you feel.

“Now why would I do that?”

Before you can respond, you hear a voice that is vaguely familiar to you, “Eat my flames, ugly!”  Suddenly, a blue, three eyed monster appears in the air and lands on the monster’s hand next to you and then begins to spout fire from its mouth.  You immediately recognize that this person belongs to Big Hero 6, but what confuses you is his voice.

“Fred?” you say in confusion.

He stops using his fire and looks down at you, “Huh?”

The man inside the robot uses the distraction to tilt the robot’s hand back so Fred falls off.  “Fred!” you shout in fear as you watch him fall.  Luckily, you see the pink member of the group throws a ball at him that covers his suit in some type of goo that protects him from the fall.  You breathe a sigh of relief when Fred reappears from out of the goo.

“Interesting…” you look back over at the man who is giving you a curious expression.  “You seem to be familiar with the members of Big Hero 6.”

“What?  N-no, I-”

“Let the hostage go, Kaiju,” a strong and very familiar voice sounds from behind you.

You gasp and turn around as much as you can in the tight hold of the robot.  You see the leader of Big Hero 6 standing on the back of the large flying red member of the group.  You let out a shaky breath as you get your first up close and personal look at them.  The young male stands confidently with his arms crossed over his chest.  The purple and black armor of his suit hides a set of broad shoulders and slender legs.  Within the glass plate of the mask is a very familiar face that looks straight passed you to the man in the giant robot.

“Hiro?”

His gaze flickers over to you.  He recognizes you immediately and his confidence quickly crumbles away.  “(Name)?!”  Hiro’s heart stops beating when he looks into your wide eyes that are staring back at him in fear.  “Kaiju, let her go!” he screams desperately, all earlier confidence vanishing.

“Okay.”  You don’t even get a moment to taken in his one word, before the crushing grip of the robot’s fist disappears from around you.

Your fingers claw desperately at the unforgiving metal as you slip free and begin to fall.

“NO!” Hiro screams and falls onto his hands and knees.  Baymax is quick to react and takes off after you.  Your terrified screams ring in Hiro’s ears as Baymax speeds towards you.  With dexterity that would have surprised you, had you not been fearing for your life, Baymax plucks you out of the air and cradles you in close to his chest.  Your arms immediately move around his neck, clutching desperately to something solid.  Baymax flies off and lands on the ground a safe distance away from the fight.

Hiro immediately jumps off Baymax’s back and runs over to his front.  He helps Baymax carefully set you down on your feet before he pulls you into his arms.  You hold onto to him tightly, trying to calm your erratic heart rate and hyperventilating breaths.

“What are you doing out here?!” Hiro practically yells at you, pulling back from the hug and holding onto your shoulders.

“I-I was just going out for a walk!  I didn’t realize how far from the apartment I was getting…” you explain, still shaken up and confused about what was going on.

“Why were you by yourself?  Are you crazy?”

Instead of figuring out how to answer his questions, you mind was filling itself up with questions of your own.  “Hiro, why are you dressed up like the leader of Big Hero 6?  Why did that guy in the blue monster suit sound like Fred?”

Before he can respond, an explosion can be heard and smoke begins to rise into the air from just around the block.  “There’s no time, Baymax take her home, make sure she gets there safely,” Hiro orders before he starts to make his way back to the fight.

“Wait!  Hiro!”  You take a step to chase after him, when Baymax wraps his arms around you and pulls you back into his chest.  “No, Baymax, stop!”  You try to wiggle free, but he only tightens his grip.  “Hiro!” You cry out as your boyfriends keeps running away from you.  You yelp when once again you are lifted into the air as Baymax takes off.  “Hiro!!” you scream desperately one last time before he disappears from view.

“Baymax, take me back,” you plead.

“I’m afraid I cannot do that.  It would be unsafe for you to remain in the vicinity of the fight.”

“Please!” you beg.

“I cannot disobey a direct order Hiro has given me.  He told me to take you home, so I will.”  Baymax flies with you in his arms and lands in front of your apartment complex.  He sets you down and takes a step back.  “I cannot leave until you have gone inside your home and locked the door safely behind you.”

You cross your arms and glare up at him defiantly, “And what if I don’t go inside?”

His head tilts to the side and he blinks, “Then I will have to stay out here with you.  However, this decision would be unwise, because Hiro might need me back at the fight.”

Your shoulder drop when you realize how true that might be and that fact scares you.  For all you know, Hiro could be seriously injured right now without Baymax there to protect him.  You stay silent as you turn to go into your apartment.  You watch from behind the window as Baymax moves out into the street and takes off.

You take a second to gather your thoughts before running to the remote and turning the television back on.  You pace in front of the TV, feeling anxious as you watch the live newsfeed of the fight.

The members of the team are moving around too fast for the cameras to catch a good glimpse at their faces; however you quickly recognize the rest of the team by their hair.  Honey Lemon’s straight blonde hair flows from underneath her pink helmet.  Wasabi is quickly recognized by his dreadlocks.  Every once in a while you are able to catch a glimpse of GoGo’s purple streak from inside her helmet.

It doesn’t take them very long to finish off the monster.  Honey Lemon starts throwing her balls at it and whatever is inside them seems to be some type of chemical compound that dissolves the metal of the robot.

You breathe a sigh of relief when the team disappears into the night, the way they always do after their battles.  You find comfort in knowing that none of them got hurt.

Turning the television back off, you sit down on the couch and begin to process all this information you just learned.  You feel a lot of mixed emotions rolling around inside of you.  A small portion of you is impressed and proud of your friends’ achievements.  A larger part of you is hurt and somewhat betrayed that they would all keep something like this from you.  You feel the most hurt knowing that Hiro would keep this from you.  You feel anxious, wanting to hunt him down and talk to him.  On the other hand you feel very hesitant in gaining the knowledge of what his answers might be.  Most of all, you just feel terrified.  Terrified of the experience you just had.  Terrified of the possibility of watching your friends get hurt while they’re out there trying to save the city.  Terrified of the possibility of losing the love of your life.

You feel the walls beginning to close in again and know that you have to go find Hiro.  Grabbing your coat, keys, and this time your cell phone, you head back out and make your way to his place.  As you approach the Lucky Cat Café, you can see that all of the lights are off, including the ones up in the apartment.  You wonder if that means that Hiro hasn’t gotten back yet.

You walk around the corner and approach the side door that leads to the first set of stairs within the apartment.  You raise a hand to knock and then pause.  All the lights being off means that Aunt Cass is probably asleep.  It would be rude to wake her up, but at the same time you really need to see Hiro.  You are saved from having to make a decision when you hear his voice coming from the back of the house.

“I’m fine, Baymax!”

You make your way to the back and find that the garage door is open.

“Your blood pressure is elevated and your heart rate is increased-”

“Hiro?” you call out to the two of them.

Your boyfriend jumps and turns to look at you with wide eyes.  “(Name)!”

Both of them are still wearing their armor, although Hiro has taken off his helmet.  As you had your walk over here to Hiro’s house, you had kind of been hoping that you had just woken up from some crazy dream, but seeing the way Hiro is still dressed, you come to the conclusion that your night was all too real.

“What’s going on, Hiro?  Why are you dressed like that?” you ask hesitantly.

Hiro can’t seem to look you in the eyes, “I thought you would have figured that out by now…”

You let out a shaky breath, “Well, I did.  I just didn’t really want to believe it.  How is it that you’re the leader of Big Hero 6?”

He shrugs, “It kind of just happened.”

“Things like this don’t just happen!”  You feel your emotions beginning to rise up inside of you.

Sensing this from you, Hiro puts his hands up, “Whoa, just calm down, alright?”

You shake your head, his words making you angry.  “Don’t you dare tell me to calm down after the night I just had!  How can you be so nonchalant about this?!”

“So I fight crime, what’s the big deal?” he asks getting defensive.

“The big deal?!  You’re only eighteen years old, Hiro!  And this,” you gesture to his armor, “Is what you are doing?  You’re going to get yourself killed!”

“I’m not a child, (Name).  I know what I’m doing!”

“You might not be a child now, but you were when you started this!  Big Hero 6 has been around for four years!  That means you were only fourteen when it started!  In what part of your brain did you think that it was okay for a fourteen year old to go running around chasing after criminals?!”

“It doesn’t matter what happened in the past.  The facts are that I’ve been doing this just fine for four years now.  I don’t need you telling me what to do!”

“I’m not trying to tell you what to do, I just want you to see some common sense!  What you’re doing is dangerous!”

“Look who’s talking, Miss I-walk-around-San-Fransokyo-at-night-straight-into-a-giant-monster’s-clutches!  Maybe you should get a sense of danger for yourself, before you coming yelling at me!”

You let out and angry growl.  “Well, it’s your fault I was out there in the first place!  Maybe if you would just answer your dang cell phone!”

“I was on a mission!  You expect me to just drop everything for you when I’m trying to save the city?!”

“It’s Wednesday, Hiro!” You finally yell out in your loudest voice.  Your body shakes as you heave for breaths after yelling so much.

Hiro opens his mouth to give you a response, but then pauses as he wonders what the day has to do with anything.  When it finally dawns on him, his eyes widen and his shoulders sink.  “Date night,” he mumbles to himself, his eyes clouding over.  His gaze moves back up to meet yours all anger fading away.  “(Name), I’m so sorry,” he takes a step toward you, but you step back, shying away when he reaches a hand out.  Pain and hurt flashes through his eyes and he lets his hand drop.  “(Name)…”

Your breath hitches as your eyes fill with tears.  “I made you dinner, and I put on a nice dress.  I even kicked out my roommate, so we could be alone.  But then you never showed up.”

He tries to take a step closer once again, “(Name), please.”

“Don’t touch me,” you whisper, moving to the other side of the garage.  You place your hands down on his desk as you lean against it, needing to feel something solid as your world spirals out of control.  Hiro’s hands clench into tight fists as he forces himself to not go after you.  You sniff and use a hand to wipe away your tears, but they keep coming.  “I am so mad at you, Hiro!” you tell him before suddenly turning around to face him again.  “But now I’m also scared out of my mind!”  You wrap your arms around yourself hoping it will help keep you together when all you feel like doing is fall apart.  “What if you get hurt, Hiro?  And I already know what you’re going to say!  You’ve been fine in the past, so why worry?  But I am worrying!  And that’s something you’re going to have to deal with!  I don’t know what I would do if you got hurt out there!  I don’t know what I would do if I lost you!”  Feeling your legs give out, you sink onto the floor and just completely break down.

Hiro’s heart clenches the way it always does whenever you cry and he carefully approaches you.  He kneels down, hoping you won’t push him away again.  “(Name)…”

When you realize how close he is, you jump forward and throw your arms around his neck.  You hold him tightly as you cry into his chest.  “Please don’t leave me!”

Hiro wraps his arms around you and pulls your body into his lap, so he can hold you as closely as physically possible.  “I hate to break it to you, Gorgeous, but I’m never letting you go,” he whispers into your ear.  He flinches when you let out another sob.  “Please don’t cry (Name).  You know I hate it when you cry.”  His hands rub soothing circles against your back as he whispers sweetly into your ear until you calm down.

“Were you ever going to tell me?” you ask once you’ve calmed down enough to hold a normal conversation.

“Yes,” he responds without any hesitation.

“When?”

That’s when he hesitates, “I don’t know.”

You dry the last of your tears and look up at him.  “Do you have any idea what I’ve been going through these past few weeks?”

His brow furrows in confusion, “What are you talking about?”

“You kept disappearing on me, Hiro.  We’d be out at lunch and suddenly you’d get a phone call and leave.  Study sessions cut short after a text message.  Voice mails while I’m in class telling me you can’t make it to our plans later on.  You’d make all these hurried excuses to leave and would always dodge the questions when I asked where you’d been.  Surely, you’d have to understand where my thoughts were heading!”

Hiro takes a moment to mull over your words.  When his thoughts finally reach the same page as yours he looks down at you like you’re crazy.  “You thought I was cheating on you?!”

“Well, what was I supposed to think?  That you’re actually a superhero and you’re always running off to fight crime?!  Well sorry, for not coming to the obvious conclusion, I’ll try better next time!” you respond sarcastically.

“(Name),” he holds your face in both of his hands and leans down to kiss your forehead.  “How many times do I have to tell you that you’re the only girl for me?”

“Well maybe it would help if you didn’t skip out on date night,” you mumble grumpily.

Hiro frowns, “I am so sorry.  I promise I’m going to make it up to you.”

You reach your hand up to grab one of his and entwine your fingers.  “And no more secrets, okay?”

He nods and smiles softly, “Okay.”

You lean forward and bury your face into his neck, wrapping your arms around his waist again.

“So, are we okay now?” Hiro asks, resting his cheek against the top of your head.

You close your eyes and squeeze him a little tighter.  “We’re getting there.”

He lets out a low sigh, “(Name), I swear it was not my intention to hurt you by keeping this a secret.  In fact, I was doing it to protect you.  You think I don’t know how dangerous it is, but believe me, I do know.  And I didn’t want you to get involved because of it!”

Lifting your head off his shoulders you furrow your brows when you look up at him, “But what if I want to help you.”

He immediately shakes his head, “No way.  Out of the question.”

You frown “Why?”

“Because I wouldn’t be able to focus on anything.  Earlier tonight, when I saw that it was you that Kaiju was holding, I lost my cool and it nearly cost you your life.”

“I guess I can understand that.  But I don’t have to like it.”

Hiro exhales in a laugh and kisses your forehead.

“Thank you for saving me, by the way.  I guess I forgot to mention that.”

He smiles softly, “Don’t thank me, thank Baymax.  He’s the one that caught you.”

You look over Hiro’s shoulder and smile at said robot.  “Thank you Baymax,” you tell him.

“Most certainly.  I am also happy to report that both of your neurotransmitter levels seem to be stabilizing.”

You and Hiro share a laugh.  You both stare into each other’s eyes as Hiro leans his forehead against yours.  “Are you okay now?”  He asks.

You smile, “Baymax seems to think so.”

One corner of Hiro’s mouth lifts up in amusement.  “Yeah, but I want to hear it from you.”

You tilt your head slightly to rub your nose against his in an Eskimo kiss.  “I’m okay now,” you confirm.

Hiro then pulls back and stands up before helping you to your feet as well.  He grips your hand in his as his eyes sparkle with a new idea.  “You said no more secrets, right?”

You look at him curiously and nod, “Yeah.”

He grins “Want to see my secret place?”

“Stop fidgeting.  I won’t let you fall.”  Hiro’s arm tightens even more around your waist as your fingers clench as tightly as possibly to Baymax’s wings.

“I’m sorry.  I didn’t use to be afraid of height, but I think falling from nearly fifteen stories up might have changed a few things.”

“Relax.  Baymax caught you then, didn’t he?  He can catch you again.”

Instead of helping, his words make you tense up even more, “But you just said you wouldn’t let me fall!”

Hiro realizes his mistake in his choice of words, but then can’t resist the temptation to tease you further.  “I won’t, but you know, just in case…” he lets his words just hang out in the air.  He laughs when you tense up even more underneath him.

“Hiro, that’s not funny!”

Hiro leans his helmeted head against the back of your shoulder as he tries to suppress his laugh.  It doesn’t take Baymax long to reach your destination up on top of the blimp wind turbines.  He lands fluidly and Hiro slides off.  When it doesn’t look like you’re about to move any time soon, Hiro reaches up and grabs onto your waist.

“(Name), I’ve got you.  You can let go now.”

“But what if I fall?” you protest, unwilling to let go.

“You won’t fall.  I’m right here,” Hiro tells you in a reassuring voice.

You take in a deep breath to calm your nerves, “You promise?”

“I promise.”

With one more breath, you relinquish you hold on Baymax.  Hiro uses the muscles in his arms to slowly lower you onto your feet, rather than just let you drop.  As soon as you’re down, you quickly turn around and wrap your arms around Hiro’s waist.

“I’m scared,” you admit, burying your face into his chest.

Hiro curls his arms around you.  “(Name), I love you, and I promise I’m not going to let anything bad happen to you.”

“I would feel a lot more comfortable if you could also promise that nothing bad will ever happen to you,” you mumble.

Hiro sighs softly and tightens his grip, “Baymax won’t let anything happen to me.”  You stay quiet and just let Hiro hold you as you try not to think about how high up you are.  “Hey, (Name)?”

“Mm?” you mumble.

“Look up,” Hiro instructs in a soft voice.

You hesitate for just a moment before building up the courage to open your eyes and do as you are told.  You gasp in delight at what you see.  Millions of stars cover the inky black sky.  Being this high up means that all the lights from the city are no longer blocking your view of the night sky.  “Hiro, this is amazing!”

Hiro chuckles and sinks down into a sitting position, pulling you down as well to sit between his legs.  The both of you stare up at the night sky.  You begin to point out the constellations that you know and you tell Hiro the stories behind them.  He responds by making up his own constellations and coming up with ridiculous stories just to make you laugh.

“A shooting star!” you gasp as it zooms passed.

“Make a wish,” Hiro whispers into your ear.

You have to think about it for a moment before you come up with a perfect wish.  “Shooting star, the only thing I want to wish from you is that you protect my crazy boyfriend right here whenever he goes out on his escapades to save the city.”

Hiro chuckles and leans his head forward to kiss your cheek.

“What do you wish for?” you ask when he doesn’t say anything.

“A hamburger.”

You turn and slap his chest, causing him to laugh.

“It was a joke!”

“Too late, now.  You can’t take it back; you’ve already said it out loud.”

You let out a squeak when Hiro suddenly falls onto his back and takes you down with him.  You wiggle around in his arms until you manage to get yourself onto your hands and knees above him.  You look down at him to see his grinning face looking back.  “I’m sorry, (Name).  You know I love you, right?”

You roll your eyes but smile back.  “And for some strange reason that seems to be beyond my grasp, I love you too.”  Hiro smirks, before tightening his arms around your waist and flipping you both over so he ends up on top.  You let out another involuntary shriek, wrapping your legs tightly around his waist and grabbing his shoulders.  “Hiro, don’t do that, you’ll make us fall!”

“No we won’t.  Stop worrying.  Besides, Baymax is still here to catch us.”

You glare and tighten your grip on his shoulders in warning.  “Hiro Hamada if you make us fall off this thing, even by accident, I am so totally breaking up with you.”

He laughs and bends down, “Well, we wouldn’t want that,” he tells you before connecting your lips.

And that is when you made out with your boyfriend, that you just found out was actually a superhero, up several miles above the city, and underneath the shimmering stars.

Baymax: "It looks like I am going to have to give you and (Name) the 'talk' a bit early
