Your heartbeat thuds in your ears as you get closer and closer to the Lucky Cat Café.  You had hoped the short walk over from the apartment would give you time to settle your nerves, but they only got worse.  You step up to the door, but hesitate once your hand wraps around the handle.  With a deep breath, you turn the knob and push it open.  The bell above the door jingles, announcing your arrival.  There are a few people milling about the café, but it doesn’t seem to be too busy.  Aunt Cass looks up from scrubbing one of the tables.

“(Name)!  Long time no see!  How are you?” she asks with a big smile.  She walks right up to you and pulls you in for a hug.

You hug her back, “Um, I’m okay,” you respond.  When she pulls back, you brush some hair back behind your ear and look down at your toes.  “Actually, there’s something we need to talk about.  Do you have a moment?”

She notices your slight distress and frowns, “Of course, sweetie.  Why don’t you go up stairs and wait for me in the living room.  I’ll just make sure the bakery can run on its own for a minute, and then I’ll be right up.”

Giving her a grateful smile, you nod and make your way to the staircase in the corner of the café.  You sit on the couch in the living room, your right leg starting to bounce in anticipation.  You fiddle with the sleeves of your cardigan, running the fabric across your fingers.  It was originally one of Tadashi’s, but he had left it at your apartment one time and then just told you to keep it.  It was now your favorite thing to wear when you were stressed out or in need of comfort.

After a few tense minutes, you hear Aunt Cass’ soft footsteps come up the staircase.  She sees you on the couch and moves over to sit next to you.  In her hands is a small plate and when she hands it to you, you notice there are a few cookies placed neatly on it.  “You look like you could use a pick-me-up,” she says, giving you a tender smile.

Your smile isn’t as forced this time as you accept the plate.  “Thank you.”

“Now, why don’t you tell me what’s going on with you?” she asks, folding one leg under the other to make herself more comfortable.

You sigh as you try to get your thoughts in order.  This wasn’t something you were supposed to just blurt out, but how does one approach this topic delicately?  “Where do I start?” you mumble out loud.

Aunt Cass waits patiently for you to speak, knowing that you would get it out eventually.

“Do you remember when Tadashi and I went down to Monterey for the weekend a few weeks before… well, you know,” your voice breaks off.  Tadashi’s death was still a difficult subject for you.

Aunt Cass nods, “Yes of course.  When he got back, it looked like he had stars in his eyes.  I’m so glad you managed to get him out of that lab for a few days, that robot of his was sure giving him a lot of trouble at the time.”

“Yes, well, something sort of happened…” You run your fingers through your hair and exhale deeply as you try to gain the courage to say your next piece.  “Tadashi and I… We…  We kind of did something pretty reckless and stupid and we just got carried away.  I thought I had handled it once we got back, but I guess not, because I’m-”  The words seem to lodge themselves in your throat.  “Well, you see, I’m-”  You huff in annoyance at your inability to speak.  You bite your lip and look up at Aunt Cass through your lashes.  She looks slightly confused, because she can’t figure out what you are trying to say.  “I’m pregnant.”

The room is silent for a moment until Aunt Cass lets out a small “Huh.”  Your brow furrows because her response seems rather nonchalant to you.  But then it seems like a light switch got flipped, because all of a sudden she gasps loudly.  Her hands fly up to cup around her mouth and her eyes widen to the size of saucers.  “You’re what?!” she suddenly screams out at you, causing you to jump.

You wince and bite your lip again.  “Um, do you really want me to repeat it?” You ask hesitantly.
She quickly slaps her hand over your mouth, “No, don’t!  I don’t think my heart could handle it.”  She places her other hand on her chest, over her heart.  “Are you sure?  Have you gone to the doctor?” she asks once she is a little more composed.  She pulls her hand back so you can speak.
You nod in confirmation.  “Yes, I went this morning.  I had acute morning sickness and thought I might be coming down with something.  I never expected it was actually due to this,” your hand moves to caress your abdomen.  It still boggles your mind that there is now a tiny person growing inside of you.

“Okay…” Aunt Cass lets out as a breath; a hand moves up to rub her forehead.  “Okay, okay, okay,” she repeats over and over, under her breath.  She lets in and out a deep breath before lifting her eyes to meet yours.  “This is what we are going to do.”  She stares blankly at you for a long moment.  “Oh gosh, what are we going to do?!”  You see the panic flare up in her eyes before she shoots off the couch and begins to pace the floor in front of you.  She lets out an angry growl, “What on earth was that boy thinking?!  Oh, if that knucklehead were here right now, I would pull his ear so hard it would hurt for a week!  What were you two thinking?!” She turns sharply to face you at that last question.

You cringe at her angry yelling.  “I told you… we got carried away.  We didn’t mean for this-”
“Of course you didn’t mean for this to happen!  You were both in the middle of college with one more year before graduation!”  She snatches a cookie off the plate that you had forgotten was still sitting in your lap and stuffs it into her mouth.  “Do your parents know?” she asks sharply.

You shake your head.  “Not yet, you’re the first person I’ve told.”

“So, you haven’t told Hiro?”

You shake your head again.

“And what about-” Her voice cuts off abruptly and she stops her pacing.  “Tadashi…  He didn’t know.  Did he?”

Your breath catches in your throat as you come to the same realization.  “No,” your voice cracks.  “There’s no way he could have known.”  You feel tears well up in your eyes as you think about it.  “But now that is going to haunt me, isn’t it?  What if he had known?  Would he have changed his mind about going into that building?  Would he still be here?”  You choke out a sob and press a hand to your mouth.

“Oh sweetheart,” Aunt Cass says in a low voice.  She sits back down next to you and pulls you into her warm embrace.  “Don’t do that to yourself.  Don’t play the what-if game.”  After you calm down a little she pulls back and wipes your tears.  “We’re going to take care of you.  You became a part of this family long before any of this happened.  Just think of this as sealing your fate.  There’s no getting away from us now.  I’ve already helped raise two young boys, what’s adding another little one into the mix?”  She tells you with a smile.  “Although, I would highly suggest picking up a book on parenting.”

You laugh through your drying tears and use the sleeve of your cardigan to wipe the moisture off your cheeks.  “Thank you so much, Aunt Cass.”

“What are grandma-aunties for?” she responds.  “Oh!  I still can’t believe this is real!” she pulls you in for another big hug.

“I know, me neither.”

“Whoa, what’s going on here?” your hug gets interrupted by Hiro walking up the stairs, having just come home from class.

You both pull away and glance at him before looking back at each other.  “You should probably tell him.  It’s not like he won’t notice in a few months anyways, if you know what I mean,” Aunt Cass tells you as she stands up from the couch.

You let out a big breath and follow her lead.  “Okay.”

“What am I going to notice?” Hiro asks, his interest peaked.

“Why don’t the two of you go on up to the bedroom?  I’m going to need a minute before heading back down to the café.”

You nod and begin to usher Hiro up the next flight of stairs.  “Come on, pipsqueak.”  You give him a light shove toward the stairs to get him moving.

“What happened?” he asks.  “What’s wrong with Aunt Cass?  I don’t think I’ve seen her that worked up since she had to bail me and Tadashi out of prison.”

You roll your eyes, “Less talking and more moving,” you tell him, giving him another nudge up the stairs.

“Okay, okay.  I’m going.”  When you reach the top, Hiro slips his backpack off and tosses it onto his bed.  Then he turns to face you.  “Are you going to tell me now?”

You cross your arms over your chest and look down at him.  “You may want to sit down for this.”
He sighs in exasperation before jumping onto his bed.  “Okay, I’m sitting.”  You stare at him for a long moment, trying to figure out what to say.  You were finally able to get it out to Aunt Cass, but telling Hiro was an entirely new obstacle.  He grunts in annoyance and flops onto his back.  “And now, I’m waiting…” he says impatiently.

“I’m pregnant,” you just blurt out.  Wow, it was not supposed to come out that way.

Hiro bolts up and looks at you with wide eyes.  “You’re what now?”

You roll your eyes and awkwardly shift your weight from one foot to the other.  “Do I really have to say it again?” you ask, looking at a spot over Hiro’s shoulder, rather than right at him.

“No…”  He’s silent for a moment, trying to process the information.  “How?” he asks in a low voice.

Okay, that was a conversation you definitely didn’t sign up for.  “You’re the genius here, why don’t you tell me.”  You say in a way to divert the awkward question from being directed at yourself.

That’s when it finally clicks.  “Wait, wait, wait.  You did that with my brother?!  Ew!”  He begins to make hacking noises out of his throat, like he’s about to throw up.

You roll your eyes once more at him.  “And that’s all I need to remind myself that you really are a fourteen year old boy.  You know, you’re probably going to be doing that too someday.”  You place your hands on your hips as you look at him.

He scrunches his face and sticks out his tongue “No thank you.  I’m good.”

You let out a small laugh at his behavior.  Taking a few steps forward, you reach out and ruffle his thick, black hair.  “You really are a knucklehead, aren’t you?”

He glares up at you playfully, but makes no move to remove your hand from his hair.  After the moment passes, Hiro slips into a thoughtful daze.  “So you’re really having my brother’s baby, huh?”

You nod your head and give him a simple answer.  “Yup.”

“So then, that makes me…” he pauses.

“A monkey’s uncle?  Yes, yes it does.”  You fill in before he can get the words out.

He gives you a dry look.  “Haha…” he responds sarcastically.  “Did you just call your own child a monkey?”

You laugh and look down at your belly as you rub your hand across it in small circles.  “Well, it will kind of look like one for about the first two thirds of the pregnancy.”

“When will you know if it’s a boy or a girl?” Hiro asks, his eyes fixated on the movement of your hand.

“Usually not until about the 18th week.  The doctor told me that I’m at either week nine or ten right now.”

Hiro then jumps up off his bed, an excited look in his eyes.  “I should get Baymax to download a database on this!  Then you’ll have nothing to worry about!  Come on!”

He grabs your hand and starts running down the stairs.  “Whoa there, Sparky!” you exclaim.

“We have to tell the others, too!”  You both make it down to the café and dash across to the front door.  “Be back later, Aunt Cass!” Hiro calls over his shoulder.

She gives you both an incredulous look and you give her back one to match as Hiro pulls you out the door.  Needless to say, the entire gang was extremely excited when they found out about the baby.  They were definitely shocked at first, but after that passed, they were overjoyed.  Each of them offered to help baby sit and had already started making plans on turning the baby into miniature versions of themselves.

Your pregnancy continues on at a steady pace.  Hiro would constantly have Baymax scan you to make sure everything was alright.  He did it excessively, to the point where you had to start locking your lab room door, so you could actually get some work done while you were still physically able to.  The whole gang tends to treat you like a fragile doll.  Sometimes it has its perks, but for the most part you just thought it was annoying.

You have a couple of hard days every once in a while when you would think about Tadashi.  You would wonder about how he would have reacted to the pregnancy.  How he would have been as a father.  You tended to stay home those days, and the gang learned pretty fast to just leave you alone until the next day.

The months seem to pass faster than you can blink.  All of a sudden, you find yourself in a hospital room, going through bouts of contractual pain as your body prepares to deliver your baby.  Aunt Cass, Hiro and Baymax are gathered in your hospital room, while the others wait down the hall in the waiting room.

You groan as another wave of pain passes through you.  Your muscles clench as your try to breathe through it.  When it’s done, your body collapses back into the pillows of the bed.  Your head begins to feel a little fuzzy and you’re not sure if it’s because of the contractions or something else.  You close your eyes and try to focus on breathing.

You hear the combination of robotic movement and squeaking that indicates Baymax moving closer to your bedside.  “What is it?” you hear Hiro ask.  You still don’t open your eyes.

“My scanners indicate a drop in the number of platelets her body is producing.”

Baymax’s voice fluctuates strangely in your ears as your head transitions from being fuzzy to extremely fuzzy.

“What does that mean?” Hiro’s response seems to reach you in slow motion.

The last thing you hear is the medical equipment beginning to beep loudly, before you slip into nothingness.

It’s dark all around you.  You don’t hear any more sounds, not even your own breathing.  All of a sudden, you see a tiny light in front of you.  It looks like a candle flame and it seems to be giving off warmth.  You head toward it, as if it’s drawing you in.  The light quickly begins to glow brighter, until you are completely engulfed in white light.  Surprisingly, the bright light does not seem to hurt your eyes, in fact, it feels quite comforting.

A scent that is very familiar to you surrounds your being before a pair of strong arms wraps around you and pulls you into a hard chest.  “Hey, beautiful.”  You recognize the voice immediately, and it feels like a breath of fresh air.
Cliff hanger!!!!!!!!!  Haha, this was kind of long on MS_Word, so I decided to split it into two parts.  I'm putting up the second one right now!  Warning you now, it gets depressing... Sorry.Big Hero 6 Baymax (There There)

Strangeness of the day: Whenever I read the title of this, for some reason I sing it in my head to Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" song.  Even though it doesn't flow as nicely. Haha Fish
